37 down (as of today!).
11 to go.
I've been having some very strange problems with my teeth and gums while on the treatment. Several times after taking my shots, I've felt like my teeth have been re-arranged during my sleep. To the point where my bite is completely out of whack. I think I've even posted about it in the past.
Recently (since increasing the frequency of my shots), I've also noticed a marked change in my gums. At first it was a difference that my tongue felt inside my teeth. It was like my gums were retreating and there was more of my teeth exposed.
There's no pain, and I go to the dentist every six months religiously. Always have. Always will. So I haven't really worried about it.
But the amount of tooth that my tongue feels has become alarming. I did a close inspection in the mirror this morning and completely freaked out! My gums are shortening and I have exposed roots on nearly all my top teeth. We're talking 1/4" on the front four teeth!!
The bottom ones aren't nearly as severe, although my gums have thinned so much that there is one root that is visible down near my jaw.
Holy shit! Has anyone ever heard of this happening due to the treatment?

Re: Strange Side Effect?
Tue, April 11, 2006 - 12:35 PMit is very common georgia, it is due to multiple things, dehydration reducing saliva causing higher levels of bacteria and just the reduction in moisture on the gums, in addition reductions in red/white blood cell counts causing a reduction in overall health of all tissues in your body
there is not much you can do about it while on tx except try to keep the gums as healthy as possible, which is why the pagasys literature specifically emphasizes brushing and flossing a minimum of twice a day
i have also found that a good mouthwash used several times a day and a bit of vaseline applied by q-tip to the gums helps immensely
provided you don't get any specific decay caused by all of this, not long after getting off treatment my gums pinked and plumped up again last time and thats what I am hoping for this time

Re: Strange Side Effect?
Wed, April 12, 2006 - 8:20 AMWow- I didn't know this was a side effect, I mean I'vebeen having gum problems like pain and bleeding as well as a funny feeling on my tongue like I have a piece of hair in my mouth. But my mom told me that tea tree oil is very good for gum health. I would go to my local health food store and check out what they have has far as oral care goes. There's also a company called Arbonne that has a great all natural skin sonditioning oil, it's very healing, I use it for everything. You can check it out at www.arbonne.com, email me if you have any questions about it....... the set back is that neither the tea tree oil or the skin conditioning oil taste very good..........small price to pay I guess? -

Re: Strange Side Effect?
Wed, April 12, 2006 - 11:53 AMGeorgie, I did and still have! I told my MD and she got all freaked out and said I had to see a dentist immediately because there is a side affect that causes a cessation of saliva and teeth start rotting and fall out! -

Re: Strange Side Effect?
Wed, April 12, 2006 - 1:07 PMWhen on treatment, I drank up to five liters of water per day. I didn't drink one liter five times per day. I constantly sipped from a water bottle that I carried with me everywhere.
