My doc gave me EmergnC or however you spell it for that purpose. Before you take anything though, and not to take away from anyone's experience, run anything you want to try by your doc first. S/he is the only person who knows your chemistry. Is your doc a hepatologist?

Hi Denise... The one thing that turned out to be my best friend during treatment was electrolytes. Water was never enough for me and I had a headache constantly until I began mixing the powdered electrolytes into my glass of water. Reuben, if it worked for you great. I wouldn't risk using any treatments on a damaged liver until I got it screened by a good hepatologist. A good hepatologist will confirm that no proven case of success treatment just from natural meds exists. Also, I was involved with many mds who practice alternative medicine and they concur on this point. I agree with Tracey and Mike, it is hard enough convincing people to get western treatment, this just provides another step closer to cirrosis. I know a girl who lasted about 1 month on interferon and she was so impossible about the side effects that the doctors said, maybe this isn't for you, come back when you are ready. She went to a store like Rainbow and bought a liver cleanse product. I've seen her since she did it but the thing with hep is that we don't always exhibit symptoms. I am sad that she did that and hope that she didn't hurt herself.

If only it were true that something natural, without side effects would kill the dragon.. It's a well known fact that nothing does at present apart from the combo therapy. There are many snake oil salesmen trying to push their wares on vulnerable people, the only thing they'll get rid of is their cash. Some of these products are also very harmful and some just interfere with the blood tests making it look like you have a log drop, when in fact that is not true. People have been through hell with this treatment, please don't try and rip them off and promise something you cannot deliver. People's lives are at stake here.

Thanks, guys! I get bad headaches due to environmental allerfies and am so hoping they don't come full force with these meds. Hi Denise.. I did the Pegasys and I did my shot about 9pm at night and then went to bed around 10.30pm. I figured that if I woke in the night not feeling good that i could take some more Tylenol (sorry, I forgot that's what you call paracetamol over there) anytime after 1pm. I did take over the counter Tylenol/ codeine as you can buy Tylenol with 12.5 mg of Codeine from the chemist over here and I used these when I felt rough in the day. (my nurse said this was fine) I was told to avoid things like Ibuprofen during treatment or any Non-steroidal anti inflammatory. My worst symptom was migraine, which I suffer from anyway and these were awful and I had to take really strong pain relief for this (Tramadol/Tylenol. You can take Tylenol ever four hours, up to four times a day but I expect you know that anyway . All the best Tracey

Good to hear you've got your start date Denise. I think everyone is affected differently. I heard so many stories that I felt so nervous before my first jab and then all I felt was headachey and weird. I also had a hyper type of effect. I just found that treatment gradually wore me down. My only advice would be. Do your shot, go to bed a couple hours later and take a couple painkillers just in case. I hope it goes ok. I'll be thinking of you. Tracey

Got the news that my first 'jab' will be next Thursday...will also find out then which arm of the study ( Schering genotype 1s w/ investigative pro-tease inhibitor, boceprevor, aka sch 504304) I'll be assigned - it will either be 28 weeks or 50 something...51, I think? I'm planning to do the shot at bedtime on Thursday night. My dh is off Fri/Sat/Sun so he can be there to help w/ dd (7) if I'm not up to snuff. Got my tylenol extra strength, my tylenol PMs and lots of water. Any other words of advice to ease into this thing? LOL - or is there no such thing?? :) Feeling increasingly excited and extremely apprehensive/nervous! Need to get my game face ON!!
