Toxic Waste Dump

Greetings everyone. I will be spending the morning at the toxic waste dump, i.e., new construction, carpet, paint, enamel, glue, etc. Upon entering my face will start burning, I will get sick to my stomach, dizzy and unable to think. Unfortunately I will need to run the meeting so I am just delighted at my upcoming day.

I went to an alternative clinic once and did all kinds of treatments for mis-diagnosed chronic fatigue syndrome. When they were raided by the fda, I got out. Ever since then I cannot be around chemicals, perfumes make me sick, soap w/fragrance makes me want to throw up, etc. It didn't get worse on treatment because it couldn't. Ha ha. For those of you new folks I did fly to NY next to fragrance laden people and had to breathe through my scarf all night.

Do you folks have the same problem?

Yes- But I just always thoght I was overly sensitive to smells. The it got worse on the treatment. But now even, off treatment I am even more sensitive. I almost pucked last night when I smelled the air freschener my boyfriend sprayed after he used the restroom, and it wasn't the sh** smell that got to me, it was the floral crap. And paint- forget it, you might as well hit me over the head with a sledgehammer!

some number of yrs ago I began to develop an aversion to certain foods, not a dislike a real aversion, foods I had eaten for yrs. as time has gone by since then I have developed an equal aversion to certain smells and have a very difficult time in traffic due to exhaust odors.

I had a conversation w/an internist regarding the foods and she indicated 2 things. one, the liver is your filter, for everything, everything you eat, drink and breath and when its under stress the body will begin making its own decisions about what is and isn't good for it. many odors are toxic from the mild to the sever and the liver knows it more than any other organ in the body.

secondly both interferon and ribivirin cause a hyper reactive condition throughout the body that once triggered the docs really have no prediction for when it will stop or even if it ever will. I have a friend that is crippled by her interferon treatment 9 yrs ago as a hyper reactive cell condition in her bone marrow never ceased, its not as uncommon as they would lead you to believe.

many people that have gone through any type of chemo report hyper sensivity to all sorts of things for yrs and even forever after treatment.

bev you may want to chat wi/your doc about it, as small, short term doses of a mild steroid will often shut the process down but as you well know comes w/its own set of time bombs.

don't you love this disease, even when its gone it leaves ghosts of the dragon.

Oh you are so right sherrill, a party hearty. The food thing also? Lovely.

When I was on treatment and the ladies weren't supposed to use air freshener (there is a fan running 24/7), they would leave it in the stall I didn't use and which, unbeknownst to me, get this, was the designated one for smells. When I would go in there because the others were full, I would pick it up and throw it in the trash. I can't tell you how good that felt. Every once in a while I get good and fed up with people treating me like I'm an idiot to my face. This is disgusting, but as long as we are here on the most disgusting of topics, when I was told about the designation, I was also told the potty habits and side effects of all the women in the office. How is that for gross?
